During the year 2008, overall average gas availability was 99.996% which comes as a result of special attention paid to improvement of the system reliability and introduction of new generation of control systems. Beside the high availability figures the reliability of the system is further enhanced by the following:
- The gas network is monitored via a SCADA system from Muscat control center working round the clock.
- Gas Supply Stations (GSS) designed with some degree of redundancy.
- Excellent Integrity Program and pipeline maintenance activities.
- Efficient operation and maintenance.
- The North pipeline network is a loop therefore gas can be supplied from two different sides.
- Additional pipelines and Gas Supply Stations are constructed to feed country’s growing energy requirements.
- Considerable infrastructure growth was achieved at Sohar Port Facilities to cater power houses and other major industrial facilities set up at Sohar area.
- New pipeline project in underway from Saih Rawl to Mukiznah to feed growing demands at South Oman area.
- Currently 5 different Gas Plants supply gas to the system. To meet the 100% demand of total system, compressor station was commissioned at Buraimy and started importing gas from UAE.
